A Dangerous Method

On 11th February 2012, in her capacity as Chair of the Confederation for Analytical Psychology (CAP), Ruth chaired a one-day conference to coincide with the general release of David Cronenberg’s film, A Dangerous Method. The film is based on Christopher Hampton’s stage play of the same name, itself based on John Kerr’s A Most Dangerous Method, which is an exploration of the history of the early days of psychoanalysis and the relationships between Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and Sabina Spielrein – who was a patient of both men, profoundly influenced their thinking, and became an analyst and child psychologist in her own right. CAP arranged for an exclusive private viewing of the film which was followed by discussion with six internationally renowned figures who are experts in their fields. A slightly abridged version of Ruth’s opening comments can be found here.
